ELOGIO DELLA LUCE has been specifically designed for Wilmotte Foundation’s gallery in Venice, offering the opportunity to explore the development of historic cities through art and culture.
In 2005, Jean-Michel Wilmotte established the Wilmotte Foundation to raise awareness among young architects on the issues of conservation and restoration of historical buildings. The Foundation’s aim is to encourage and foster the union between heritage and contemporaneity by working for the development of the ‘contemporary graft.’ The Foundation has the ambition of playing the role of a ‘transmitter’ to detect and encourage young talent and help in the dissemination of architectural culture, building bridges between architecture, heritage and contemporary art.
The Wilmotte Foundation was established in the heart of authentic Venice, in Cannaregio. The gallery open in August 2012. Typically Venetian, this area has two entrances: one by land and one by water from Sacca della Misericordia, north of the lagoon. The main entrance is through the arch of Santa Maria della Misericordia across a garden.
After two and a half years of restoration work, the site was restored to its former glory reinterpreted.
Having been a naval workshop, a carpentry workshop, and a vocational school, this space offers the Wilmotte Foundation a unique exhibition space in the world-class location of Venice.
