1861 > 2011 >> REGIONS AND TESTIMONIES
Planned by the Italian public power company in 1971 and started in 1981, the construction of the Montalto di Castro nuclear plant stops in 1988 following a severe flood and, mainly, the anti-nuclear referendum of 1987. A thermoelectric power station is then built beside the existing and useless structure. It's still the bigger operational one in Italy.
Built by Mexican CIA Cementos about three miles away from the remains of the aborted nuclear plant, and bought by Italcementi in 2005, the Montalto di Castro cement factory is the example of a "clean" industrial facilty, thanks to its minimal environmental impact and to the architectural standards inspiring its design.
I have been invited to take part with two photographs to a group exhibition documenting the transformation of the Italian industrial landscape. The show opened on March 31, 2011 in the presence of former Italian Prime Minister Giuliano Amato, now the President of the Committee for the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Unity of Italy, whose main event is this exhibition.

That's great news, Gianni - many congratulations!
